It’s not Mumbai, nor is it Delhi, Bangalore or any other metro cities. Kozhikode more prominently known as Calicut in Kerala will witness A.R. Rahman performing for the first time in India post his twin Oscar win. As ARR will be working in U.S.A for six months, Rahman has rejected several offers for music concerts in India.

The reason why Rahman nodded a “yes” for the show in Kozhikode is mainly for the purpose for which it is being conducted. The concert titled “Jai Ho” that is being organised by the NGO Global Kerala initiative- “Keraleeyam” is for the rehabilitation of HIV positive orphaned children.

Speaking to the media, Rahman said “Discrimination has no end between states, religions and between nations. That is the main curse. I am moved by the cause”.

The composer also added that he was looking out for an apt opportunity to perform in Kerala for the past 15 years.

Rahman will be joined by around 50 musicians for the concert on May 3.(India Glitz)

After actresses Asin and Genelia, Nayantara is going to act in a Hindi movie under a big banner, according to the latest industry buzz. Nayantara, the numero uno in Tamil and Telugu movies, now has a price tag of Rs.1.5 crores per film. According to her, she already got an offer in Hindi with the payment of whopping Rs.2 crores, after the release of Chandramukhi.

“But I declined the offer to concentrate more in Tamil and Telugu films, which are my strong base. Now I hope that I have done enough in these regional languages and it is the right time to make my debut in Hindi. But at the same time, it will take some time to decide the movie and director.”

Inspired by Rehman’s Oscar winning song ” Jai Ho”, pop group Pussycat Dolls have filmed a Bollywood-influenced msic ideo for their new song

In the video, baring similarities to the scenes from Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire starring Dev Patel and Frieda Pinto, lead singer Nicole Scherzinger is seen walking around a train station, followed by a mystery man, while his bandmates record him.

While the song composed by Rahman, combines traditional Indian sounds with urban beats, Nicole has even written some additional lyrics herself, giving it a new twist.

“It’s such an honour to be able to collaborate with A.R. Rahman and be a part of the Slumdog Millionaire project in some way – I found the movie’s story and music very spirituality uplifting,” the Sun quoted her as saying.

The film, which tracks the story of an 18-year-old slum boy from rags-to-riches, triumphed this year’s Oscars with 8 awards, including two for Rahman.(TOI)

Aamir Khan aka Aamir Hussain Khan born on March 14, 1965 is an Indian film actor, director and producer. Proved his mettle in every field he takes on, the actor would turn 43 tomorrow. We took a glance about his career overall and his journey which still going strong.

Aamir Khan started his career as child artist in his uncle Nasir Hussain’s film “Yaadon Ki Baraat” in 1973 but his professional career kick started with a Ketan Mehta’s film “Holi” in 1984. That film didn’t do well at the box office and he tasted first success with his cousin Mansoor Khan’s film ”Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak” in 1988 and thus became a chocolate boy of Bollywood. It was also through this film that he won his first Filmfare for Best Male Debut and since then he never looked back. After six previous nominations during the 1980s and 1990s, Khan received his first Filmfare Best Actor Award for his performance in Raja Hindustani in 1996, his biggest commercial success so far.

Due to his typical ‘chocolate hero’ looks; he was publicized as a teen idol. After QSQT, he was seen in several other films in the late ’80s and early ’90s: Dil (1990), which became the highest grossing film of the year, Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin (1991), Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar (1992), Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke (1993) for which he also wrote the screenplay), and Rangeela (1995). Most of these films were successful critically and commercially. Later on Andaz Apna Apna with Salman Khan is regarded his all time comedy film though this film didn’t get good reviews from critics. But today also this film is loved by every one and there are rumors that the makers are planning to make the sequel of Andaz Apna Apna. But in 1996 he just had one commercial success “Raja Hindustani” which was directed by Dharmesh Darshan. This film earned him his first Filmfare Best Actor Award, after six previous nominations, and went on to become the biggest hit of the year, as well as the third highest grossing Indian film of the 1990s and then he decided to do one good film every year. So in 1997, he co-starred with Ajay Devgan and was paired opposite Juhi Chawla in the film Ishq, which performed well at the box office. In 1998, Khan appeared in the quite successful Ghulam, for which he also did playback singing and the song he sung, Aati Kya Khandala… became everyone’s favorite

After this in 1999, John Mathew Matthan’s Sarfarosh was also quite successful gaining an above average box office verdict. The film was highly appreciated amongst the critics especially Khan’s role as ASP Ajay Singh Rathod  a dedicated, honest and an uncorrupt cop, as did his role in Deepa Mehta’s art film Earth with Nandita Das.

But his first release for the new millennium, Mela, in which he acted alongside his real-life brother Faisal Khan, doomed at the box-office. While in 2001 he appeared in Lagaan. The film was a major critical and commercial success, and received a nomination for Best Foreign Language Film at the 74th Academy Awards. Additionally, the film gathered critical acclaim at several international film festivals, in addition to winning many Indian awards, including the National Film Awards. Khan himself won his second Filmfare Best Actor Award.  After four-years of break from acting, Khan made his comeback with Ketan Mehta’s The Rising in 2005, and later won a Filmfare Critics Award for Best Performance for his role in Rang De Basanti (2006). Later on he worked with Yash Raj film “Fannah” in which he played a negative role with Kajol as his love interest. In 2007, he made his directorial debut with Taare Zameen Par, for which he received a Filmfare Best Director Award. In 2008 Khan appeared in the movie Ghajini. The film was a major commercial success and became the highest grosser of the year while this year he will be seen again in Rajkumar Hirani’s 3 Idiots with Kareena Kapoor.

Aamir Khan as a producer

In 2001, He founded Aamir Khan Productions with Lagaan which was directed by Ashutosh Gowarikar and then came Taare Zameen Par and through this film he turned into direction in 2007. In 2008, he launched his nephew Imran Khan in “Jaane Tu Yaa Jaane Naa” which was a commercial success and now next films under his production house are “Dhobi Ghaat” which is directed by his wife Kiran Rao and other film is “Delly Belly” in which Imran Khan plays the main lead.

Aamir Khan’s personal life
His father, Tahir Hussain, is a film producer while his deceased uncle, Nasir Hussain, was a film producer as well as a director. He is an off-spring of the Muslim scholar and politician Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. He is also a descendant of former President of India Dr. Zakir Hussain and a second cousin to former Chairperson of Rajya Sabha Dr Najma Heptullah. During the years of Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Khan married Reena Dutta as a result of this marriage his parents did not approve because of her not being a Muslim and so Khan’s marriage stayed a secret both from his parents and the media for a while. Reena made a brief appearance in the popular song sequence Papa Kehte Hain in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. Reena Dutta maintained a low profile and continued her job at a travel agency. They had two children; a son named Junaid and a daughter, Ira, and led a quiet family life away from the public eye. Reena was involved, briefly, in Khan’s career when she worked as a producer for Lagaan. But a turning point came when in December 2002, Khan filed for divorce, ending the 15-year marriage, with Reena taking the custody of both their children. On December 28, 2005, he married Kiran Rao who had been an assistant director to Ashutosh Gowariker during the filming of Lagaan. In 2007, his brother Faisal caused a media scandal by accusing Khan of mistreating him and forcing him to take medication. Faisal has been said to be mentally unstable. In 2007, Khan was invited to have a wax imitation of him put on display at Madame Tussauds Museum in London.(Sampurn Media)

After winning accolades on international arena, ”Videsh-Heaven on Earth”, a film on domestic violence by director Deepa Mehta, is all set for release in India.

”Videsh” revolves around the life of a young girl from rural hinterland of Punjab who migrates to Canada post marriage.

Initially titled ”Heaven on Earth”, its name was changed to ”Videsh” to suit Indian sensibilities.

The film deals with the issue of domestic violence that a young bride undergoes at the hands of her expatriate husband.

“How we find ourselves in situations where reality becomes very difficult to bear and that”s there in all our lives. Then our imagination helps us to alleviate the painful situation, that is the context of the film,” said Deepa.

The film stars Bollywood actor Preity Zinta, who has already won rave reviews for her powerful performance as a battered wife.

“It”s one of my toughest films till date and one of my most memorable films. It is not just a film on abuse, but it is a full-bodied film. It talks about immigration, it talks about life of young girls, when they leave their countries and go into arranged marriages, abuse is a very small and integral part of it,” said Zinta.

Made in English and Punjabi, the film has already struck a positive chord with the viewers in Canada.

”Videsh-Heaven on Earth” has won a nomination for best original screenplay at the 24th Genie Awards while Zinta has been nominated in the best actress category.

Zinta also won the best actress award at the Chicago Film Festival for her performance in the film.

The film is slated to hit the Indian screens on March 27. (ANI)

Some days back it was reported that Priyanka Chopra has become the first Indian actress to be given the chance to cast her footprints in the famous Salvatore Ferragamo Museum. Well, she has done it and is back.

Now if anyone has doubts regarding the enormity of the honour that came knocking for Priyanka, read this.

The Museum situated in Florence was built in 1995 in the memory of Salvatore Ferragamo, who is considered as the greatest shoe designer of the world.

Although the Italian died in 1960, his shoe making company specializing in hand made footwear is one of the top most brands in the world. The Museum which is considered as the temple of shoe design has a collection of over ten thousand models of shoes created by the designer over a period of 40 years.

Speaking about her experiences in Italy, Priyanka said “Salvator’s son, Leonardo who manages the family business, hosted a dinner on Tuesday at his home in my honour. It was very nicely done. I was happy to be at the receiving end of their attention. The museum has foot casts of famous personalities like Marilyn Monroe, Sophia Loren and Drew Barrymore. And now it has my foot cast too. The Ferragamos are going to send me custom-made shoes regularly and of course, their bags.

Other than Priyanka, Maharani of Cooch Behar- Indira Devi is the only other Indian to have cast her footprints at the Salvatore Ferragamo Museum.(IndiaGlitz)
